A long road of dedication
148 years of history
Master Antoni Fluxá
The exciting adventure of Lottusse cannot be told without first talking about Antonio Fluxá Figuerola, the initiator of this path.
Master Antoni was born on January 26, 1853, in the small Mallorcan town of Inca. A village located at the foot of the Tramontana Mountains that already had an emerging economic life at the time. Especially when compared to other towns of that 19th-century, pre-tourism Mallorca, so isolated and inward-looking.
Inca, the city of footwear
Upon his return to Mallorca in 1877 after the end of the war, Master Antoni brought to Inca more than just his worn military uniform. He also carried with him new ideas, very different from what he had known while making leather shoes in Mallorca.
Mestre Antoni immediately saw what we would now call a “window of opportunity” and that same year he founded his own shoe workshop. Lottusse began to walk: the first years he would do so wearing only men's shoes and from the beginning of the 20th century also with women's shoes.
The decision to improve quality and enhance the prestige of his product yielded very good results. Lottusse soon found shops and warehouses interested in distributing its products in Barcelona. The growth of the Catalan market culminated in the hiring of a representative for this region. Master Antoni had succeeded in opening new paths and expanding Lottusse’s horizons.
His legacy today
After his death in 1918, Master Antoni not only left behind a highly mechanized and developed shoe workshop. His legacy is above all a way of understanding and doing things: of conceiving footwear production, the mission of a business, and the relationships with workers, among many other things.
