Their voices walk slowly, letting the years pass through each word. But a universe full of history is still drawn in them, part of it guided by the milestones that have made Lottusse the brand we know today.
The smiles of Tomeu Prats, Production Manager; and Tomeu Marqués, in charge of quality control, still allow us to sense the impulse that led them to be part of this ambitious project. But their arrival in Lottusse happens at different times in their lives: while Tomeu Marqués’ family was already part of the shoe industry, his namesake would start from scratch without having yet reached the age of fourteen, in the workshop formerly known as Can Fluxá.
Thanks to the emergence of new entrepreneurs, opportunities began to seem possible for local people, who in the 1950s worked, for the most part, in the fields.
The beginning for the young Tomeu Prats in our factory would therefore be with great enthusiasm, in charge of different tasks: whoever became the right hand of Don Antonio remembers vivid details of that time.
“Don Lorenzo used to tell us about his experiences, stories that I listened to with great interest. Years later, the company passed from the hands of Don Antonio, who did not stop worrying about the family of each of the members of his team ”. Says
Both experienced the change from the manual to the industrial, and even the irruption of advertising, which would mark a before and after in the consumption of footwear. This beginning made production grow thanks to the vision of the products offered on TV, radio and magazines.
Before he was 14 years old, Marqués was already working in a shoe workshop, years during which, he assures, he carried out various tasks, until fate brought him to our house. Lottusse was a great company and Don Antonio a well-known traveler, who recognized the current situation inside and outside our borders.
“I was born between shoes: the leather and the rest of the materials surrounded me. With them, the functioning of the processes has changed, but the important thing has to do with people, not machines ”.
Consumption grew and Lottusse represented the fashion and quality of footwear. The great resistance of this was proved with more and more followers. Large companies began to make higher quality shoes, while design progressed in parallel, emerging in countries such as Italy, the cradle of forerunners and great designers from whom most manufacturers were inspired. The idea, color and shape were born there: they were the creatives of fashion and technique.
“We supported each other a lot, the factory was a great family. Lottusse took care of the team by providing moments of leisure such as those meals enlivened with the melody of bandurria, that marked the beginning of the weekend ”.
Tomeu Prats and Tomeu Marqués
The value of people was key, and Lottusse knew it. Don Antonio wanted to modernize all the systems that he invested in the creation and sale process. We went through the computer to manage production in a much simpler way in which technical dedication made it possible.
While we say goodbye, they both walk away at a slow pace wearing our shoes, unique pieces that they treasure with care and nostalgia. They continue recognizing those values adapted to the reality of a changing world, in which workers position themselves as a fundamental part of the company’s progress.
