The animal skin has imperfections, but for Toni Arenas “on the skin, the wrinkle is always beautiful“. He has been with us for more than 40 years and still maintains the energy and magnetism that has allowed him to develop an impeccable professional career, succeeding that of his father José Arenas, a former employee of the brand who he visited in our factory.
His journey inside the brand
Inca was boiling, it was a living city. The hustle and bustle were remarkable, and this was the best part of the island to work, as the shoe industry gave a lot of opportunities. The skin moved the people. Thus, he would begin his work in the factory, where the smell of skin was already familiar to him, with his mother also being a worker in the industry.
Today he has been shaping the production team for years, although his performance on this stage would begin in the role of a boy of just 6 or 7 years old eager to learn. Longing that would lead him to carry out a meticulous task, giving reins to the curious spirit that characterizes him. Here he learned the true value of trust, and the value of working for a prestigious firm, his greatest achievement. Working here was synonymous with security, and opportunity. Lottusse was the closest thing to a family.
I started in a demanding job but in which I was very comfortable. When you are young, being able to give prosperity to your family is the best reward. His profession allowed him to contribute to the improvement of the family economy, giving the opportunity for his sister to study, he says with pride. But the brand always cared about his workers, encouraging study through scholarships. In his case, he made an effort to graduate from school at night with the help of the company, to later learn the trade from so many people who today are ties of friendship.
After years of learning the manufacturing work, in 2006 his opportunity came when they saw in him the perfect piece for the gear that would make us move forward, since he was well qualified for the job. He then began to question new ways to improve the creation of our handmade leather shoes and accessories.
“I worked for many years in charge of the warehouse seeking to offer the maximum effectiveness of the equipment, putting the focus so that the train never stops”
Toni Arenas – Factory Manager
The birth of his twins added to the responsibility assumed a new change in his life. His son Jaime, who joined our team in 2015, continues today by his side performing different functions, under the added requirement of those who esteem him.
His first objective as responsible for the manufacture of our products has always been to simplify processes. Today he also has the challenge of combining the new generations with those who have been with us for years. Antonio Arenas, Toni, our current head of the factory, still does not use the alarm clock in the morning, which is why the siren of our factory is already there, but what he does assure us that he continues to be surprised by the little things.
“The trust they placed in me allowed me to move forward, but the fact that my son can be by my side today means the maximum learning for me.”
